THE GROW KAHA STORY
in every kiwi is kaitiaki…
It was a proud thing to grow up in the land of the long white cloud, in the land of ancient kaitiaki, of guardians. Forests flourished. Environments were respected. Guardianship of our lands was ingrained into our culture.
But change came, as it inevitably does. New generations came and focus shifted. Our interest in the environment waned. Our land grew bleaker. We’d lost our way to connect with Papatuanuku, with our Aotearoa.
Kiwis from all backgrounds; including boys and girls who will one day inherit the land, were introduced to Grow Kaha.. They learned how to work together to look after our land, to truly help, and to become guardians once more.
Because of that, New Zealanders united to look after our land in the best way they can. Because of that, the people rallied and found mana in being guardians of the land again. Because of that, everyone discovered how light this responsibility of looking after our homeland together actually was.
Guardianship of our land was restored. It became the pride of all Kiwis once again, and this philosophy became a model for the world.
Ever since then the boy and girl’s children and grandchildren walk on the land that flourishes, perhaps below the trees their parents and grandparents planted, passing on the lore of kaitiakitanga, of guardianship for generations to come.
It is time for change again.
Together we grow a strong Aotearoa.
